Product Description

Why take the chance? Safe Sea is a convenient and effective way to protect your family from jellyfish, sea lice, sea nettles, and most other ocean stingers!

Safe Sea is clinically proven to protect against many common varieties of stinging marine life. There are over 13,000 species of marine stingers in the ocean, and over 200 million beachgoers around the globe are exposed to marine stingers each year.

Along the US coastline, more than a million people are stung every year by sea lice, sea nettles, and other marine stingers.

Safe Sea helps protect against the painful stings caused by these marine organisms, and many more:

  • Jellyfish (Not yet tested against Portuguese Man O'War or Box Jellyfish.)
  • Sea Lice
  • Fire Coral
  • Sea Nettle

Jellyfish Stings: Hi-tech Micro injections

Jellyfish, sea lice, sea nettle, coral, sea anemone and other organisms which belong to the phylum cnidaria family are all equipped with stinging cells. These stinging cells consist of a capsule containing a condensed highly folded eversible needle with potent toxins. The discharge of this needle is driven by the building up of a high internal hydrostatic pressure of 200 atmospheres. This pressure is about 100 times the pressure in a car tire and is similar to the pressure that exists in scuba diving tanks.

When jellyfish come into contact with their target, the folded needle is fired from the capsule at accelerations of up to 40,000xg, similar to the acceleration of a shell being fired from a cannon.

The jellyfish toxins are delivered into the prey through the needle which resembles a multi-headed poisonous arrow.

Jellyfish stinging mechanism

A: Jellyfish and jellyfish tentacles

B: Tentacles and stinging clusters

C: Clusters with hundreds of stinging mechanisms

D: Cluster with stinging capsules and folded needles

E: Resting and discharge stinging mechanism

How Jellyfish Sting:

A. Stimulants from the skin initiate discharge process.

B. High internal pressure of 200 atmospheres is built in the capsule.

C. With 40,000xg of acceleration the needle drills a hole into the skin.

D. A tubule follows the shaft and injects poison into the body.

Keep ocean lovers in the water and out of agony with Safe Sea lotion to prevent jellyfish stings.

How Safe Sea Lotion Works:

Safe Sea protect against jellyfish stings in several ways:

Safe Sea lotion works by inactivating the stinging cells in several biochemical sites. It reduces tentacle skin attachments, mimics jellyfish self-recognition, blocks stinging cells activation, and interferes with the cellular signal, reducing the internal osmotic pressure in the nematocyst capsule.

In less scientific words:

The Safe Sea lotion's slippery texture makes it difficult for the stinging tentacles to get a grip.

Chemicals (stoppers) in the lotion block up the sites where the stinging process is activated.

Other inhibitors (stoppers) block the chemical pathway

The chemical stoppers reduce pressure in the stinging cells, preventing the jellyfish from firing its stings.

Question My question is, does it really work. I live in Broad Channel New York, and this summer we have had a lot of jellyfish in Jamaica Bay. My son actually got stung today. I think it was more of a slight brush, but he is 6, and had a bad time with it. I didn't even know how to help him. We haven't had to many run ins with jellyfish and aren't that knowledgeable about them. This one was about 6 inches in diameter, and red with long tentacles, I think thats what you call them. For the future I do not want anymore more run ins with them, so help me find a way to protect my family. Thank you, Dawn Keehner

excellent product. I used it to protect myself while swimming in a 2.4 mile ocean swim race. Prior to the race, the red cross had been warning us of the sea lice and tiny jelly fish all around the water, as a matter of fact there were many who had rashes already all over. Not me!!!! I never got one as I lathered myself in "safe sea"

I highly recommend this product to protect your self from stings.
